Beach Body: Thighs

There would be no beach body if there weren’t a great pair of legs to flaunt under the California sun!

The thighs are a target area for many women (myself included).  The thighs are quick to store fat and during prolonged periods of strength training it seems as if they get larger than we’d like.

The best way to get lean and tone thighs is to incorporate the fitness tripod (healthy eating habits, cardio and strength training).  Healthy eating habits will ensure that you are not consuming excess fat and calories that contribute to unshapely thighs.  Cardio allows you to burn the excess layers of fat and strength training helps to shape, sculpt and define your thighs.

There are various forms of strength training strategies that include: traditional lunges/squats, yoga and pilates.

Pilates side kicks are an excellent way to sculpt lean and long thighs because you are using your body weight as resistance (the ultimate challenge) and as you work to contract your muscles you are lengthening them at the same time.

Yoga
is another way to sculpt the thighs of your dreams because holding the  standing poses requires the engagement of numerous thigh muscles for a long period.  When muscles are under tension for a long period of time you are utilizing fat as your primary energy source as you shape your muscles.
