When I was younger I hated the word “no”. Sure I must admit that I may have been “12 going on 24” in my younger years, but the thought that I couldn’t do something that I really wanted sure put a fire in my belly.
I guess this is why when there is something I want I go for it full throttle! Now that we are adults the world is our playground and we can go out and experience the joys of accomplishment, the pursuit of careers, the pleasures of relationships and enjoy life to the fullest.
Unless we tell ourselves “no”. Although it sounds strange that we would deny ourselves the delight of “playing in the ultimate playground of life” we do it to ourselves everyday.
- We tell ourselves “no” because we fear the unknown.
- We tell ourselves “no” because we don’t believe in ourselves.
- We tell ourselves “no” because we may not feel that we deserve better.
In fitness (as in life), this is a constant struggle but if we don’t find the strength to tell ourselves yes then we can never move forward.
Say “yes” to yourself today.
1. Give yourself a fitness challenge! Sign up for a 10K run, take that intimidating fitness class (start slow and stay at your own pace, remember it is all about “you”) or take your two left feet to that dancing class (you’ll dance to your own rhythm).
2. Face your fear of change! Write down the fears you’ve always wanted to conquer and annihilate them.
3. Believe that you can do anything! When we were younger we were so intrigued about the world around us that each day we sought to experience more, we were courageous and daring.
Reconnect with that side of yourself; you’d be surprised at how far you can go.
