So you’ve started down your new fit and healthy path for 2009. You have a few workouts under your belt and you’ve certainly started eating healthy. Seems like you are well on your way, but didn’t it start off this way last year?
Millions of people begin the year with the New Year’s resolution of getting fit and healthy and the large majority will fall off the wagon a few months down the line.
As a personal trainer, I am often asked why this occurs. The fact is that there are a number of ways that we can sabotage our fitness goals. From our body’s desire to maintain homeostasis (our body really is quite happy staying just the same, it takes hard work to convince it to change), our motivation to exercise, our fear of change, our readiness to change and our ability to reconnect to the fact that we are strong, unique and beautiful individuals that deserve the best (in food, in health and in life).
Achieving a healthier lifestyle is a journey of discovery, through this journey you will uncover your weaknesses and identify strengths that you never knew you had. You will develop coping skills, self confidence, and cultivate your ability to overcome obstacles and challenges. The fitness journey is a battle but you can succeed especially if you have access to the information you need.
Each week stay tuned to the “Fitness Detours” series where I will inform you of the common pitfalls and distractions that you will face on the path toward your fitness goals and give you advice on how to confidently overcome those challenges.
