How do emotions affect your body’s tendency to gain and lose weight?

Emotions play a huge role in gaining weight based on their physiological and psychological effects on the body, especially when you are facing stressful situations.  Physiologically your body responds to stress by producing cortisol which reduces your body’s ability to recover (no recovery, no change) and encourages you to crave sugar.  Psychologically emotions can result in an attitude of helplessness/doubt/fear in your ability to succeed in reaching your weight loss goals.
