Fitness ID: Control Freak

“To exercise restraint or direction over, to dominate, to command” this is the definition of control.  A control freak clings to the ability to dictate outcomes and finds comfort in excessive planning.  In the mind of a control freak this behavior is necessary to avoid uncertainty and the possibility of failure.

Personality #2: The Control Freak

  1. Are you an excessive planner?
  2. Do you find it difficult to vary your fitness routine?
  3. Do you find yourself resistant to new forms of exercise?
  4. Has a stagnant fitness routine led you to a fitness plateau?

If you answered yes to any of these questions then you may qualify as a control freak.

The control freak finds tremendous satisfaction in coordinating every aspect of their fitness regime and can have an incredible amount of self-motivation.  Control freaks can be very analytical when it comes to designing their routines so they must understand the why and how of each exercise.  The control freak is hesitant to try new fitness activities, which often leads to fitness plateaus.

Workouts for the control freak must be organized, efficient and effective.  Control freaks may benefit from working with a personal trainer but the control freak has to make a conscious effort to trust the fitness professional’s advice and fitness program design.
