There is something about exercising to your favorite songs.
The workouts are more intense, enjoyable and they are over before you know it. Group exercise instructors have noticed this since inception as the top radio hits are often blaring through the speakers during class. If everyone weren’t in their tennis shoes with weights in their hands, you would probably mistake it for a club scene.
Recent research has looked at the effects of music and exercise to find some promising results. A recent study found that music can enhance endurance by 15% and also help provide “greater pleasure” from the task due to the music’s effect on your mood. The study also found that music can help exercisers to “feel more positive even when they are working out at a very high intensity” (i.e. close to physical exhaustion).
So the next time you’re in the gym turn up the music and make sure you’re working out to a soundtrack that will keep you motivated to finish strong!
