Exercise: The Stress Reliever

Each day we turn on the television there is news of our struggling economy. Everyone in one way or another is being affected and the stress it brings about can be detrimental to ourselves and those around us. How do we stay positive for our families and friends that, oftentimes, will look to us for comfort? How can we find an outlet when there is seemingly no place to turn?

The answer quite simply can be through exercise. Exercise has a profound psychological effect that can be useful in times of stress.

1. Exercise for distraction: Taking an hour a day to exercise allows you to break away from financial stress as you focus on the task at hand.

2. Exercise for stress relief: From a relaxing yoga class to a high intensity treadmill run, research has shown that each of these activities encourage the release of endorphins that can bring us back to a euphoric state of mind.

3. Exercise for control: We gain confidence through mastery, during our exercise routines we experience this process each time we try a new exercise or enhance the intensity.
