“When you are awake to what is happening right now and open to ‘what is,’ the extreme highs and extreme lows of your emotional response to life will disappear. You will live life with equanimity.” – an excerpt from The Relaxation & Stress Reduction Workbook
I have a challenge for you; take a few minutes to focus on the present moment. Appreciate what you are doing right now and try not to predict the future, worry about the past or stress about the things you must do tomorrow. Begin to focus on your breath (take a nice big inhale and slowly release the air as you exhale, repeat 5 times).
One of the biggest challenges in life and the gym is to focus on the present moment. Quite often, it is very easy for your mind to wander as you complete your 12th push up, the 14th row, the 15th lunge or even the last 20 minutes of your cardio routine.
Where does your mind go? The fact is that if your mind isn’t in the gym while you’re working out then you are not giving your workout 100%.
Next time you hit the gym leave the stress, the “to do list” and the worry outside. Use your gym time to focus on your body. You’ll be glad you did.
