Love & Fitness: Freestyle

If you have ever found yourself in a fitness rut then a “freestyle fitness rendezvous” may be just what the doctor ordered.  First find yourself a fitness buddy or a “special friend”, take a trip to your local park or beach and locate a nice grassy area, benches, swings or any other setting that is conducive to fitness.

The “freestyle fitness rendezvous” is reminiscent of a game called “Simon Says” as you choose an exercise (both partners complete the exercise) and then your partner chooses an exercise.  As a team you put together a routine of roughly six to ten exercises that are performed in a circuit (one right after the other) followed by a few minutes of rest.

The exercises should range from endurance activities (jumping jacks, mountain climbers, shadow boxing), total body strength (push ups, lunges) and abdominal work.  Complete the routine with a nice cool down of yoga and/or stretching.

Make sure to choose exercises that you are familiar with and have modifications in mind (in case your partner has any injuries or other extenuating circumstances that would affect his/her ability to complete the exercise).
